FUKUOKA, Japan — Host Japan captured the AVC Men’s Volleyball Continental Championship Fukuoka 2026 title Sunday with a straight-sets victory over Iran, securing the continental crown and direct qualification for the LA 2028 Olympic Games.

Japan prevailed 3-0 (25-21, 26-24, 25-23) in the championship match, completing the final in 1 hour, 20 minutes and delivering the title in front of their home supporters in Fukuoka.

The hosts established the early advantage with a 25-21 opening-set victory, but Iran pushed Japan much harder in the second. With the set extending beyond 25 points, Japan held firm in the closing exchanges to take it 26-24 and move within one set of the championship.

Iran again stayed within striking distance in the third, but Japan closed out another tight finish 25-23 to complete the straight-sets victory and seal the Asian title.

Yuji Nishida led Japan with 18 points, producing 13 attacks, three blocks and two service aces. Ran Takahashi added 17 points from 14 attacks and three aces, while Yuki Ishikawa contributed eight points.

Iran’s Ali Hajipour Moghaddam Farouji matched Nishida with 18 points, including 13 attacks, four blocks and one ace, while Poriya Hossein Khanzadeh Firouzjah contributed 13 points.

Japan held a 41-36 advantage in attack and delivered seven service aces compared with Iran’s three. Iran had the edge in blocking, 10-5, but Japan maintained their composure through the decisive stages of all three sets.

The victory carried significance beyond the continental championship. As Fukuoka 2026 champions, Japan secured direct qualification for the LA 2028 Olympic Games, earning Asia’s continental berth to the Olympic men’s volleyball tournament.

Iran finished as runners-up, while Korea secured third place, meaning the tournament’s top three teams — Japan, Iran and Korea — also qualified for the 2027 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Cup.

Japan’s Ran Takahashi led the tournament’s individual awardees, earning Most Valuable Player honors in addition to being named one of the two Best Outside Hitters. Iran’s Poriya Hossein Khanzadeh Firouzjah joined Takahashi as Best Outside Hitter.

Japan’s Taishi Onodera and Iran’s Seyed Eisa Naseri Chenari were named Best Middle Blockers, while Iran’s Ali Hajipour Moghaddam Farouji received the Best Opposite award. Korea’s Kyeongmin Park was selected as Best Libero, while Japan’s Hideomi Fukatsu earned Best Setter honors.
