Kyrie Irving is preparing to return to NBA action in 2026-27 after a lengthy recovery from the torn ACL he suffered in his left knee in March 2025.

The 34-year-old point guard is expected to be cleared for training camp, which would bring an end to an absence of roughly a year.

Before the injury, Irving remained one of the Dallas Mavericks’ leading offensive players.

The nine-time All-Star last averaged 24.7 points per game while shooting 40.1% from three-point range.

His scoring ability, ball handling and championship experience continue to make him an attractive option for teams looking to improve their backcourt.

That has contributed to speculation about Irving’s future in Dallas.

The Mavericks could eventually decide to build around younger players, particularly Cooper Flagg, potentially making Irving available if the organization moves in that direction.

Miami has emerged in rumors as a possible destination.

Adding Irving alongside Giannis Antetokounmpo would give the Heat another proven scorer and playmaker as they try to strengthen their championship chances.

However, completing a deal in the near future would be difficult.

Irving is set to make $39.4 million, creating significant salary-matching complications, while Miami also has limited draft capital to include in a potential trade package.
