Victor Wembanyama may be disappointed that his latest run with the French national team has ended, but the 22-year-old is equally eager to resume his work in San Antonio.

After helping France defeat Sweden 84-69, Wembanyama made clear that his emotional departure from the national team has not diminished his excitement about returning to the Spurs.

“That doesn’t change the fact that I’m still very excited to get back to San Antonio and get back to work. There’s nowhere like it to work on your game.”

Wembanyama also plans to remain involved with France from a distance throughout the NBA season rather than disconnecting from the national team until his next appearance.

“We need to stay connected, follow my teammates’ results and stay in touch with the coach. That shouldn’t be too difficult.”

Wembanyama has played 3 seasons for the Spurs. He has averaged 23.4 points, 11.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 3.5 blocks in 181 regular-season games.

He was selected to play in 2 All-Star games. He has won the Rookie of the Year award and 1 Defensive Player of the Year award.
