Former Purdue star and Minnesota Timberwolves draftee Trey Kaufman-Renn has filed a court motion for a sixth year of NCAA eligibility. Kaufman-Renn completed five years at Purdue University in 2026. He redshirted in 2021-22 before playing in 147 games from 2022-23 through 2025-26.

The Wolves drafted Kaufman-Renn with the 29th pick of the second-round of the 2026 NBA Draft. The 6-foot-9 forward then played in five Summer League Games for Minnesota. He has yet to sign an NBA contract, be it a standard deal, two-way contract or training camp deal.

Court cases are being filed across the country to determine eligibility under the NCAA current rules. Kaufman-Renn's attorney Mickey Weber made it clear that he doesn't want to be left out of the opportunity to return to college.

"He does not ask this Court to give him something the old rules withheld," Weber wrote in a brief when filing the motion. "He asks not to be the one person left outside a benefit the NCAA handed to everyone else. In withholding it, the NCAA has also forbidden every institution in Division I from competing for his services, which is a restraint of trade under Indiana law."
