The Golden State Warriors “love” Devin Booker and could be among the first teams to pursue the Phoenix Suns star if he ever becomes available, according to veteran NBA reporter Tim Kawakami.

“I think the Warriors like him too much, if you ask me. But they love him. Steve [Kerr] loves him. Booker loved playing for Steve…I know the Warriors would be first in line saying, ‘we got three first round picks we can give you,’” Kawakami said, per Peter O’Keefe.

Kawakami’s comments point to the relationship between Booker and Warriors head coach Steve Kerr, who coached the guard with Team USA. Booker has played under Kerr internationally, creating familiarity between the two-time All-NBA guard and Golden State’s coaching staff.

There is no indication from Kawakami’s comments that Booker is currently available or that the Warriors have made a trade offer for him. Instead, the discussion centers on how aggressively Golden State could pursue the 29-year-old if the Suns eventually made him available.

Booker is under contract with Phoenix after agreeing to a two-year, $145 million maximum extension on July 9, 2025. The extension followed another productive season in which he averaged 26.1 points, 3.9 rebounds and 6.0 assists over 64 games.

The 29-year-old has developed into one of the NBA’s most accomplished offensive guards since entering the league in 2015. Through 11 seasons, Booker has averaged 24.6 points, 4.0 rebounds and 5.3 assists while shooting 46.3% from the field, 35.2% from three-point range and 87.3% from the free-throw line.

Booker has made five All-Star teams and earned All-NBA recognition three times, including a first-team selection in 2021-22. That season, he averaged 26.8 points, 5.0 rebounds and 4.8 assists while shooting 46.6% from the field.

His scoring and playmaking would address several areas for a Warriors team that remained relatively quiet during the 2026 offseason. Golden State entered the summer looking to add another star but failed to complete deals involving LeBron James and Anthony Davis, while ultimately keeping its existing core intact.

Stephen Curry remains the centerpiece of that group, averaging 26.6 points and 4.7 assists in 43 games during the 2025-26 season. Jimmy Butler averaged 20.0 points, 5.6 rebounds and 4.9 assists in 38 games, while Draymond Green contributed 8.4 points, 5.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists in 68 appearances.

The Warriors also have three future first-round picks that Kawakami believes could be used in a potential blockbuster. However, any Booker pursuit would depend on Phoenix’s willingness to move its franchise player and the structure of a deal that could satisfy the Suns.
