Ever wondered how bike brands design geometry for 32-inch wheels, if there are any tricks, or what special considerations are needed? In Esker Cycles’ latest video, founder Tim Krueger walks through his process. Watch it here…

The 32-inch wheel craze has arrived fast and hard, and smaller framebuilders and bike brands have been right at the forefront. As Tim Krueger at Esker Cycles puts it, “What we’ve done with the 32-inch wheel is progressed in six months, what back in the 29er days took four years.” Tim was designing bikes when 29-inch wheels first arrived, and he sees the evolution, as well as the mistakes and experiments with 32-inch bikes, as a process very similar to the one back then.

Tim’s special formula for designing bicycle geometry starts with a few numbers, which are then paired together and tweaked to balance everything out. However, with the 32er, they’ve been starting at the rear due to the mechanical constraints of such a large wheel. We have a huge amount of respect for Tim’s approach to bicycle design and geometry, and you’ll need to watch the video below for the full scoop.
