Sophie Cunningham is keeping her attention on the Indiana Fever rather than becoming involved in the campaign launched by Enes Kanter Freedom and Royce White.

During an interview with ESPN, Cunningham was asked about the two former NBA players declaring themselves eligible for the WNBA draft amid their criticism of the league’s transgender eligibility rules.

She made clear that she had little interest in getting involved.

“I’m gonna let them do them,” Cunningham said. “I’m just focused on the Fever and on our sport. I think we have four more games left. I’m trying to just really dial in and keep the main thing the main thing.”

Kanter Freedom has repeatedly mentioned Cunningham while discussing the issue and has publicly called her “my friend.”

After he was ejected from Indiana’s Aug. 23 game against Chicago following an exchange with Natasha Cloud, he claimed Cunningham texted him, “What happened?”

Cunningham has not publicly confirmed that exchange or joined Kanter Freedom’s broader campaign.

However, she has previously expressed her own position on men’s participation in girls’ and women’s sports while rejecting suggestions that she holds hostility toward transgender people.

“I think that I am here to extend love,” Cunningham told ESPN in July. “But I also think with that love is truth.”

For Cunningham, the priority now is basketball. Indiana sits at 26-14 with four regular-season games remaining and is battling for home-court advantage in the playoffs.
