The Phoenix Suns have officially added free agent guard Alex Schumacher to their training camp roster, according to Paul Garcia of Spot Up Shot (via Twitter). As Keith Smith of Spotrac notes, the contract is structured as an Exhibit 10 deal.
Schumacher, a 2024 Seattle University graduate who went undrafted, spent his rookie professional season in the NBA G League.
Over the course of the season, he appeared in 48 games split between the Windy City Bulls and the Valley Suns, the latter acquiring his rights through a trade in March.
In his debut season, the 24-year-old guard averaged 8.2 points, 3.1 assists, and 2.7 rebounds in 22.6 minutes per game, shooting .395 from the field, .241 from three-point range, and .825 from the free-throw line.
The Suns’ decision to sign Schumacher is likely aimed at providing him with a financial incentive to return to the Valley Suns this fall.
Under the terms of his Exhibit 10 contract, Schumacher could earn a bonus of up to $85,300 in addition to his standard NBA G League salary, provided he spends a minimum of 60 days with Phoenix’s affiliate team.
With this addition, the Suns’ training camp roster now stands at 19 players, just two short of the NBA’s offseason maximum roster size.
Schumacher’s presence adds depth to the backcourt and underscores Phoenix’s commitment to developing young talent through its G League system.
