Oklahoma City Thunder rookie Thomas Sorber will miss his entire first NBA season after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee, the team announced.

NBA insider Marc Stein reported that Sorber suffered the injury during an offseason workout in Oklahoma City on Wednesday. The 19-year-old forward-center will undergo surgery and is expected to spend the next year in rehabilitation.

The setback is a major blow for Sorber, who was drafted 15th overall by the Thunder in June. The Georgetown product entered the league after a standout freshman season, becoming the first player in school history to be drafted into the NBA directly as a freshman.

At Georgetown, Sorber averaged 14.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 2.4 assists in 24 games while shooting 53.2 percent from the field. He also contributed defensively with 1.5 steals and 2.0 blocks per game, earning All-Big East Third Team and All-Freshman honors.

His dominant college debut included 20 points and 13 rebounds against Lehigh, followed by a 25-point, nine-rebound outing against Fairfield that earned him Big East Rookie of the Week. His performance throughout the season established him as one of the top frontcourt prospects in the 2025 draft class.

The Thunder had high hopes for Sorber as part of their young core alongside Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Chet Holmgren, and Jalen Williams. His interior presence and versatility were expected to bolster Oklahoma City’s frontcourt depth.

ACL injuries typically require 9 to 12 months of rehabilitation, meaning Sorber’s goal will be to return ahead of the 2026-27 season fully healthy. For now, Oklahoma City will focus on managing his recovery while continuing to develop its talented roster.
